Why Is Therapy Important For Children?

There’s a saying that ‘children are our future.’ But being a child is not always sunshine and rainbows. Children also go through stressful situations. That’s all a part of growing up. Well, not all the time.

Sure, some bumps in the road are normal experiences for a child, such as difficulties in school or occasional fights with friends. However, it’s important to remember that children aren’t immune to overwhelming emotions and problems. They can experience things that are difficult for them to understand and process.

Mental health issues may be more difficult to detect in children because some symptoms could be considered growing up. These include misbehavior, tantrums, and inattentiveness. Sometimes, mental health illnesses, like depression and anxiety, could be avoided if they only receive proper treatment earlier.

When your child is experiencing issues that they find difficult to cope with, therapy can help detect the child’s underlying issues. There are many other benefits to therapy for your child. Read on to know more!

Therapy Improves Communication Skills

There are times when a child may feel consistent sadness, hopelessness, or low self-esteem. Often, children find it difficult to understand or describe these emotions. They might not know how they are feeling or why they are feeling that way. As a result, they may bottle up their feelings.

When your child isn’t opening up to you about what they’re feeling, don’t take it as them distrusting or not loving you. It also doesn’t mean that you are a bad parent. They might find it difficult or embarrassing to talk about.

Therapists are trained to get your child to talk about what they’re going through. These professionals can help them discuss and work through their emotions. Through different activities and methods, children will learn to communicate their feelings and handle their emotions better. Therapy provides them a safe space to process their thoughts and emotions.

Therapy Helps With Mental Health Issues

Statistics show that as many as 1 in 6 children in the United States between the ages of 6 and 17 have mental health disorders. But the frightening truth is that almost half of them don’t receive the proper treatment. These mental illnesses include ADHD, depression, OCD, anxiety, disruptive behavior disorders, and trauma-related disorders.

Mental health issues are difficult to detect. Some symptoms to watch out for are inability to focus, constant irritability, violent tendencies, changes in sleep patterns or eating habits, and reclusiveness.

If you feel that your child is exhibiting unusual behavior or observing changes in their behavior, it would be beneficial to seek a therapist. Some conditions, such as depression and bipolar disorder, may run in the family. Seeking a professional to assess your child’s symptoms will determine the proper treatment your child needs to ensure their health and safety. Early intervention is key.

Therapy Teaches Healthy Coping Mechanisms

Children may sometimes experience things that no child deserves to go through. These could be family or school problems, health issues, bullying, or traumatic events such as abuse, divorce, and losing a loved one.

There are also situations where a child might find it hard to adjust, such as moving to a new place or facing natural disasters. While these experiences are not always traumatic or difficult, children do not have the maturity or life experience to cope with such events. As such, they may need professional help to get through these tough times.

Different factors also affect a child’s resilience. Some of these include age, gender, and genetics. For example, younger children may find it easier to cope with their parents’ separation than older children, who often understand the situation better but not enough to process their emotions properly. So how a child copes should not be overlooked.

Therapy helps children develop problem-solving skills and healthy coping mechanisms that they can apply in life. It helps them reframe their mindsets and thought processes, allowing them to work through their problems effectively.

Therapy Develops Life Skills

Therapy is not only beneficial for getting children through current difficulties and dealing with mental health issues. It also equips them with lifelong skills that will help them in the long run.

For example, cognitive behavioral therapy is focused on teaching children specific skill sets. It teaches them how to assess their problems, set realistic goals, develop step-by-step processes to achieve those goals, and track their progress. Meanwhile, play therapy teaches children healthy coping mechanisms, problem-solving skills, empathy, and responsibility.

By teaching them how to assess their problems and process their emotions, children develop their emotional intelligence and learn healthy coping strategies. Their confidence also develops as therapists offer support and positive affirmation. Therapists might also teach mindfulness and breathingtwo essential for mental, emotional, and physical health.

Does Your Child Need Therapy?

There’s still a lot of stigma surrounding therapy and mental illnesses. But it will never be more important than ensuring that your child gets the help they need. You know your child best. If you notice anything unusual or worrying about them, reach out to a professional. Know that they also want what’s best for your child and want to help.

Choosing a therapist for your child is important to find someone who fits well with them. You want someone that your child can trust and feel comfortable with. Therapy benefits children; it also teaches parents how to help their children healthily and productively. When seeking out therapy, make sure to communicate with their therapist. Show your support and attentiveness to your child’s situation by asking questions and being actively involved in the process.

There are still many ways for you to help your child outside therapy. You can be more open and supportive. Spending quality time with your child is a great way of showing you support them. With that, also try to be patient and gentle with them. They may need this more than you think. So praise them when they do a good job, and encourage them when they don’t.

Parents always want what’s best for their children, so it’s important to know what your child may be going through. Mental health issues aren’t as readily visible as physical conditions, so parents may still find it hard to notice that something is amiss. So don’t be afraid to connect with therapists and experts. After all, your child deserves a happy, healthy childhood.

Healing A Broken Heart

Mending a broken heart.

In this relationship, you can experience treatment mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. This article talks about curing emotions through counseling – if that works.

Mending From Relationships

Mending yourself from a broken heart should be forged with a strong initiative for change. Ultimately, there should be unity in rebooting environmental policies to adopt more environmentally friendly practices. Additionally, there must be this strong encouragement to seek eco-friendly and alternative resources that meet human needs.

Relationship Counseling

In relationship counseling, the counselor assesses the couple through their interaction and communication. Conversing can provide them a safe space to discuss their issues, heal, and better understand their relationship. By exploring this dynamic, the counselor can guide them in improving their relationship dynamics.

Expectations In Relationship Counseling

Building a stronger relationship may require relationship therapy. In this case, you need to attend several sessions depending on the severity of your relationship status to develop the mending process.

For the couples, you will answer multiple questions about the dynamics of your broken relationship. The counselor will ask about the history and manifestation of your problems during the first sessions.

Emotionally-Focused Therapy or EFT

Getting Over A Breakup

Emotionally-focused therapy or EFT is the widely used approach in relationship counseling. In this short-term therapy, you will be exploring your attachment and bonding dynamics with other adults.

From there, your therapist will explore your relationship within the family.

How well are your childhood/adolescence experiences?

Are there significant life changes influencing your ability to have stable relationships and avoid broken hearts? These emotional connections might be suggestive of your present behaviors.

Meanwhile, EFT is not the only type of relationship therapy available. There are also other types of treatment used in relationship counseling. Some examples include:

  • Imago relationship therapy
  • Solution-focused therapy
  • Narrative therapy
  • Discernment counseling

Consult your counselor in finding a suitable approach to strengthen and mend the relationship and solve your conflicts.

Proper Behavior During Sessions

Besides the counselor’s expertise, the couple should also show a strong desire to cooperate and resolve conflict to achieve effective counseling.

First, actively listen to what your partner says. Intervening defensively will only corrupt the message they want you to receive. Stay calm and open yourself to a broader perspective. Understand and recognize where they are coming from.

Secondly, be honest about your feelings. Your therapist will provide you a secure and safe space to express your suppressed emotions. Besides the advantage of confidentiality, communicating will also benefit your mental health.

Healing A Broken Heart

Lastly, be consistent. Attending one appointment is just a start. There may be special assignments to address specific problems in your relationship. For instance, your therapist may require you to explore exercises that can help with efficient communication. Examples of good practices are as follows:

  • Reflective listening
  • Complimenting each other
  • Allowing the other person to talk
  • Sharing what makes you feel loved

These approaches are not foolproof. If it fails, you may pursue alternative healing by strengthening your relationship with nature.

Mending Your Relationship With Nature

Relationship counselors focus on healing your relationship with your partner. At the same time, you may start forging your healing connection with nature. Using your senses, actively observe how you perceive your environment.

Healing Bond With Nature

Lastly, cultivate compassion for the people around you and everything you lay your eyes on. Support organizations and charities that aim to conserve and heal natural resources. Most importantly, do your part. The little things you do to ensure that the world will continue to provide for future generations show that you have a strong and healing bond with nature.

Climate Change Crisis Affects Mental Health

However, there needs to be an awareness of the connection between changing climate and health issues.

Once you understand the psychological impact of one’s environment, you can take proper action to not only avoid psychological distress but also spur greater action toward environmental protection.

Source: pixabay.com

When we talk about counseling for the climate crisis, mental health consequences aren’t necessarily a top priority.

Climate change can cause severe psychological stress and anxiety, potentially worsening existing mental health disorders. The climate crisis impacts multiple domains beyond the environment.

Understand the Crisis

In a nutshell, climate change is about how our global temperatures and weather patterns have changed. Human activities are the main driver of the changing weather.

Fossil fuels have been powering our world for many years. However, burning fossil fuels will release large amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, into the air. Greenhouse gases then trap heat in our atmosphere, causing global warming.

A few degrees don’t seem threatening at first, but they can lead to extreme events.

If you think you’re not affected by it, remember that the changing climate is real. Global warming represents the average global temperature. Some areas will experience minimal heating, while others might experience more extreme temperatures

There is also an increased risk for extreme weather events and more frequent natural disasters. For instance, storms derive their energy from warm oceans. Rising temperatures mean that storms are able to get more energy to fuel their growth.

The Core of Ecological Grief

Researchers are just beginning to understand the long-term effects of this dilemma. The environment is a complex system of interconnected natural processes. Thus, it is exceedingly difficult to analyze and predict precisely.

Source: pixabay.com

Even if we cannot predict the future precisely, the effects go beyond the environmental factors. It can lead to new food and water insecurity on a global scale.

Human activities like changing the urban environment can also affect the proliferation of insects and other disease vectors, introducing novel illnesses in previously untouched communities.

The existential threats of this catastrophe are known but researchers struggle to characterize them with precision and there may be other consequences we’re unaware of. This is why more people are considering counseling for their mental health.

All this uncertainty has mental health consequences.

Counseling for this kind of crisis is a crucial suggestion to mitigate the widespread psychological distress and anxiety. When people are gripped by worries of an uncertain future, they may exhibit symptoms of eco-anxiety.

Counseling experts can provide mental health support to help alleviate and make sense of eco-anxiety.

Unfortunately, the adverse effects of climate change will not affect everyone equally. In addition to harming our physical health due to environmental changes, it has a psychological impact as well.

Those who are climatically disadvantaged and of low socioeconomic status may have limited resources to manage its direct impact.

From a psychological health perspective, people with preexisting mood disorders may find the burden too heavy to bear. Socially underprivileged populations, including ethnic and racial minorities, may not receive adequate emotional support and access to mental healthcare.

Coupled with both climatic conditions and socioeconomic conditions, it may amplify their psychological distress.

Without the necessary support systems, more people will suffer from its mental and emotional effects.

Source: pixels.com

Unfortunately, there is still an insufficient representation of mental health professionals in this field’s research. Until fairly recently, most discussions about it were exclusive to climate scientists.

The effects of climate change on mental health are now gaining prominence. Now, more people are becoming aware of its intersectional and psychological impact.

Any global warming plan should involve mechanisms for psychological problems including evaluation and provision of mental health services. The healthcare system should also be able to handle conversations about connections between mental health challenges and climate change. It should be able to develop therapy sessions specifically for eco-anxiety. Finally, they can raise awareness of the need for healthcare during this type of crisis.

The Role of Mental Health Professionals in a Crisis

This dilemma, along with global emissions, have potentially severe psychological consequences. It is by no means inevitable. Mitigation actions in developing countries in the present day can reduce emissions and prevent much human health suffering and climate emergency in the future.

Natural disasters, global heating, and extreme weather events can cause anxiety-related responses as well as chronic and severe mental health disorders. This is caused by neglecting any possibility of climate emergency prevention efforts.

Health professionals should now use the effects of the changing climate as a rallying point toward greater action and help avoid a health crisis.

How to Manage Mental Health Issues

To help you manage mental health problems whenever you think about this topic, here are some human health-related questions scientists want you to think and reflect on:

  1. Do you have a profound sense of duty for reducing greenhouse gas emissions?
  2. How do extreme greenhouse gas emissions affect you? For example, what action do you feel like doing whenever you see news or reports about global warming, rising sea levels, heat waves, and disaster events?
  3. What kind of action are you taking to help solve or alleviate your worries?
  4. Do you have preexisting conditions such as mental and behavioral disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety disorders?
  5. Do you think therapy sessions can help you relieve eco-anxiety?

  1. Can therapy help with environmental anxiety?
  2. How are climate change and mental health related?
  3. Why do we feel down or depressed whenever it weather is cold?
  4. What is the role of a climate psychologist?
  5. How can learning more about psychology help save the planet?
  6. Can one’s behavior be influenced by the weather?
  7. What are the major issues that entail a crisis?
  8. How is a person’s psychological state affected by changes in climate?
  9. How can we help eradicate or minimize changes in climate?
  10. How is society affected by climate change?

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Depression

Source: pexels.com

When I graduated from college, my parents gifted me with a lovely Labrador that I named Pluto. They knew how much I loved dogs, but I did not get to do much of that in college because my apartment did not allow animals inside. Hence, when I moved into a pet-friendly condo afterward, I was surprised to see my new pet waiting for me in the living room, complete with a bow on its head.

Now, Pluto had been my companion for a long while. I initially worked from home, so we were together 24/7. Even when it’s time for bed, Pluto would pull his bed in my room and sleep there. When I got hired to become a manager for charity events, our closeness did not wane as the company let me bring him practically everywhere.

The problems started once I decided to change my career and become a full-time environmentalist.

Working Beyond The 9-5 Schedule

As an environmentalist, I would often need to hike, go to the beach, speak at eco-friendly conventions, etc. There were no issues about me taking Pluto to such events, considering most – if not all – of them happened outdoors. I merely had to sacrifice the commute as Pluto refused to stay still in a plane, so I would have to drive everywhere. Though I would often feel exhausted, it would all go away whenever I would see Pluto running around and playing with other people in my group.

However, there came a time when the organization I belonged to wanted me to spread the word about saving Mother Earth abroad. My initial inkling was to say, “Thank you, but no.” It would mean that I would spend a small amount of time at home. I was not worried about burglars or anything since my parents could check on my condo every day, but I did not want to be away from Pluto that long. If only I could drive out of the US and go to other countries, it would be fine. However, duty called, so I had no choice but to do it and leave Pluto to my parents.

My first environmental destination was South Africa. Once my parents assured me that Pluto would be well taken care of, I managed to enjoy my time in the foreign country and learn about their culture. In return, I reminded them of the importance of preserving nature as they increased their efforts in improving their lands. I was set to stay there for two more months, and I genuinely would have been fine, but then my mother called me a few weeks later, telling me that Pluto had not been feeling well.

I cut my trip short since it was technically an emergency for me. Though I only had Pluto for five years, he was still pretty old in dog years. When I reached my parents’ home, I saw him lying on his bed. I called his name, and he looked up at me, but he did not run towards me like he used to. In the next few days, Pluto barely ate or left his bed, so I called the vet and asked what’s wrong with my dog.

I brought Pluto to the clinic with my father since the dog refused to walk. It took the vet at least an hour before diagnosing Pluto with depression.

How does a dog get depressed?
Dogs can get depressed when their routines change, regardless of the reason.

Do dogs go into depression?
Yes, dogs go into depression sometimes.

Why is my dog so sad all of a sudden?
Dogs become sad all of a sudden due to various reasons, such as:

  • You have a new dog and no longer pay attention to the others as much as you did before.
  • You move into another location.
  • You alter their schedule.

Can dogs become suicidal?
No, dogs do not seem capable of becoming suicidal. However, when their owner dies, they may refuse to drink or eat anything, to the point of dying from starvation.

Do dogs know when you’re sad?
Yes, dogs know when you are sad, even if you do not speak the same language. Researchers say that it is due to emotional contagion sensitivity, which practically means that they can feel what you feel.

How do I tell my dog I love him?

  • Maintain eye contact with your dog and raise an eyebrow or talk to it. That is a sign of affection.
  • Rub your dog’s ears gently. Doing so signals the brain to produce endorphins (“feel-good” hormones).
  • Give a doggie hug by leaning into your dog or pressing your leg against their body.
  • Bond over fun activities. For instance, you can teach them new tricks or run together.

Do dogs know they’re dogs?
Yes. Studies suggest that dogs can differentiate themselves from humans and categorize themselves as dogs based on appearances.

Why is it so hard to lose a dog?
The difficulty of losing a dog comes from losing a living being that has given them unconditional love in their unique ways. That is especially true if they have been in each other’s lives for years.

Source: pexels.com

Should I let my dog see my dead dog?
The answer here depends on how comfortable you feel in letting your dog see the dead one. If that’s cool with you, that’s okay. However, if your other dog died because of an infectious disease, it is best not to let your living pet anywhere near it.

Do dogs suffer when being put to sleep?
No, the drug that doctors use to perform euthanasia does not make the dogs suffer. It only takes seconds for the medicine to slow down the dogs’ breathing before eventually stopping.  They won’t feel any pain at all.

Where do animal souls go?
According to Hindu scholars, animal souls tend to go through the reincarnation process when they leave their bodies. However, instead of becoming dogs again, they become humans.

Will we see pets in heaven?
Yes, various religions claim that we will see pets in heaven.

Do pets have souls?
Yes, pets have souls.

What happens when a dog dies at home?

When a dog dies at home due to natural causes or a non-infectious disease, you may bring its body to the veterinarian or contact the local animal control. Either of them can dispose of the dog’s body properly.

Final Thoughts

I was glad to know that Pluto still had many years left in his lifetime, so he was not dying or anything. When I asked how we could cure his depression, the vet advised me to bring Pluto back to my house because he needed to follow the same structure he got used to in years. As for my traveling, the organization helped me secure some papers that would allow Pluto to go to any country. In no time, he became a happy dog again.

Frequently Asked Questions About A Relationship Therapist

Relationships are one among the many fundamentals of living. We form relationships with ourselves, the people around us, with animals, and even with nature.

Our relationship with mother earth is something that no one should take for granted. It provides for our daily living, including food, shelter, and even the air we breathe. With that, it is only imperative that we take good care of the environment for future generations to enjoy.

Meanwhile, dating is one of the most exciting forms of relationships. As we spend time with another person, we build deeper connections. More than intimacy, knowing another on a deep level is certainly a unique experience.

Source: pexels.com

But marriage, compared to dating, is on another level. Getting married is a lifetime commitment, so it’s not an easy process. Some say that the beginning of a marriage is the most difficult stage. Since partners are adjusting to the new setup, conflicts are likely to arise.

Some say that there is nothing a good conversation can’t fix. But for struggling couples, marriage therapy might best help rebuild a shaky relationship. Therapy provides the avenue for communication to recognize the root causes of issues. More importantly, it helps craft solutions to address them. Furthermore, marriage therapy can also help shed light if the relationship can remain afloat.

A toxic relationship is difficult to settle without an external point of view. It is why marriage counseling helps to address unhelpful behaviors that can be causing conflicts. The sessions will not just dig on the negative. It will also tackle the good things about the relationship and the other half. Usually, the entire therapy session lasts for only a couple of months.

Partners may have different reasons for wanting to reconcile. Often, couples seek to fix their relationship mainly for the children’s sake. In most cases, children in an unhealthy marriage tend to suffer emotionally. The lack of proper guidance, in addition to constant arguing, can be emotionally taxing. In unfortunate circumstances, it can lead to developing worse mental health problems.

If you are looking for ways to work out your marriage, you might want to learn more about relationship therapists and how they can help you.

What does a marriage therapist do?

A marriage therapist can help struggling couples who are either married or engaged.  Partners experiencing hardships can seek the help of marriage therapists for advice and guidance. Married couples are usually the clients of a marriage therapist. However, engaged couples can also seek support to help them work through specific relationship issues. Some people believe that going to a marriage therapist can help achieve a successful union.

How effective is marriage counseling?

Marriage counseling produces positive results. There is 70% success for couples who receive it. Therefore, marriage counseling was able to help almost half of the pairs resolve their relationship issues.

How many years does it take to be a marriage and family therapist?

Becoming a marriage and family therapist requires full-time students to complete their MFT degree programs. A person who wants to become an MFT will need to pass a clinical exam. They must also finish the required clinical hours and work in different settings. Such helps to establish competency as a therapist.

How much does marriage counseling usually cost?

Generally, marriage counseling may cost about $100 to $200 per hour. Consider that most professional marriage counselors offer 90 minutes per session. With this, the average cost is about $150 to $300 for each session. It’s also important to consider that marriage counseling may entail multiple sessions. It all depends on the client’s situation. Therefore, it would be best to assume that the overall costs may be higher.

What questions are asked in marriage counseling?

The questions asked in marriage counseling usually revolve around the main issues in the relationship. During the counseling, couples share their thoughts on what hinders their relationship from working. The therapist may also require them to verbalize the things they appreciate about each other. A marriage counselor may ask the adjustments that they are willing to make.

When should you consider couples counseling?

There are many reasons why a couple may visit a marriage counselor. Some go through issues of affair, betrayal, or unfaithfulness within the relationship. Can you fix a broken relationship?

It is possible to mend a broken relationship. However, couples must be willing to work on it and decide that their relationship is worth fixing. Partners must also realize that it will take some time to heal a relationship entirely. The repair might need patience from both of them.

Why do couples go to therapy?

Marriage therapy can help couples restore their trust. It also helps widen insight to be able to settle conflicts. If all goes well, it improves the relationship bliss. Therapy educates them on the strategies, tools, and processes that are useful in the relationship.

Can a therapist tell you to leave your partner?

The answer is no. A therapist’s job is to help couples make such decisions for themselves and not dictate their choices. It is unethical to impose personal opinions on what a couple should do in their relationship.

What should a couple look for in a therapist?

A couple’s therapist should not take sides. The therapist should entertain both sides of the story. It’ll also be great to have a therapist with a flexible schedule. A good therapist must also comfortably open up discussions about finances and sex life. Look for someone who will respect your boundary. An ideal one will provide strategies and teach you how to use them in the relationship effectively.

How long should couple therapy last?

The length of a couple’s therapy varies as relationships are different. However, the average course of successful marriage counseling may last 12-20 sessions.

What should I not tell a marriage counselor?

Things you may want to open up to your marriage counselor mostly depend on you. You should not feel pressured to disclose any information you’re not comfortable with yet. It’s essential to know about the “therapist-patient privilege.”  It states that a therapist must not divulge any private information in court or elsewhere.

However, this only applies to one-on-one private sessions. Arguably, it won’t be easy to secure confidentiality when there are three people in a session.

Does the Gottman method work?

Many studies displayed the Gottman method as an effective treatment. Studies say that it improves marital relationships, intimacy, and adjustment. It also helps couples move past their recurring problems and enjoy the journey of their relationship again. Various researchers and therapists are significantly paying attention to this method.

What is stonewalling in marriage?

Stonewalling happens when a person in the relationship avoids communicating once an issue arises. Like stonewall, the partner who becomes unreachable often seems distant and impassable. It may appear in various forms, such as

  1. Silent treatment,
  2. Conflict avoidance,
  3. Indirect eye contact and
  4. Unwillingness to acknowledge evident relationship issues.

Getting married is not all rainbows and butterflies. At one point, it can be too consuming, which is why having someone to open up to can be helpful.

It might be initially daunting to open up relationship issues with a stranger, like a therapist. However, this might be your only chance to redeem your struggling relationship. A marriage therapist can let you talk about your insights and frustrations with your current relationship.

Source: pexels.com

When trying to rekindle your feelings about your relationship, it’s important to get clarity. The therapy can help you and your partner sort out how you feel about each other. Whatever your decision might be afterward, marriage therapy can help give your decision direction.

As the relationship matures, problems can get more complicated. But through therapy, you can deepen your connection with each other as you get to understand your partner more. The act of going to marriage therapy can even refresh your passion with each other.

The early stages of the relationship are often more exciting. Through time, the excitement may fade as arguments and conflicts emerge. The relationship can be tougher to manage, which is why relationship therapists exist. They can help you properly sort out the issues, identify pain points, and come up with a decision.

It’s best to try therapy before making a major life decision. After laying out the problems, the therapist might suggest ways to work things out. Both parties’ willingness to resolve the conflicts and work things out will play a significant role in the result.

It takes a lot of work to get the best outcomes from therapy. The process may be tedious and long. But as long as you religiously adhere to the resolutions, the therapy will surely work out well.

Through the right kind of therapy, you can achieve a happy marriage or a healthy separation. Do not deprive yourself of peace of mind and growth. You have the power to live a fulfilling and worth living life still. It’s not too late to get started.

Other participants were there to share their experiences and learn some new knowledge about how to protect communities and families from weathers that destroy their homes and livelihoods. There was also an exchange of information from experts across the country on how to prepare for calamities so that negative effects can be minimized.

Protecting Yourselves From Different Disasters

Tornadoes. Assign a place within your home that all family members can run to in case a tornado occurs – preferably a basement or cellar. If you don’t have these two, advise your family to stay from exterior doors or windows and hold on to a strong piece of furniture to protect yourself from flying debris. Seniors should be the first ones to be put to safety, and then the younger kids or perhaps children with special needs. If possible, find time to all present in the home and try doing a drill to prevent severe problems. Also, equip your home with an emergency kit.

Earthquake. During an earthquake, find protection under a sturdy table, staircase, or desk. Instruct your children about safe spaces where they can hide, mainly if the quake happens in the middle of the night. They must have specific places to hide in their bedrooms, like their study tables or under their beds. For those family members with disabilities, installing their rooms with grab bars beside their bed would make it easy for them to move to safety. If you have a pet, on the other hand, assign someone who can take your pet to safety.

Hurricane. Storm shutters and reliable roofing and doors are practical investments, especially for coastal region residents. Trim your trees so that it doesn’t reach your windows and power lines. If a family member is using medical equipment, make sure you have a generator ready in case of a power outage when the hurricane strikes. Although hurricanes can be tracked, there still have been a lot of deadly and damaging ones that have destroyed the lives of many. Once an evacuation order is issued, you and your family must follow the guidelines strictly to avoid accidents. Always be updated and equip yourselves with a radio or television for the latest updates.

Teaching Our Kids To Be Eco-Conscious: Our Lockdown Project

Source: pexels.com

I have always been an eco-friendly person because my mother taught me that the Earth would melt one day because people will abuse it. And with the COVID-19 pandemic happening, I told my wife that it is time for us to teach our kids to be eco-conscious. There is nothing else to do at home, and this could be a worthwhile lockdown project for all of us.

The Paris Agreement was the most talked-about topic at the 2019 Climate Change Event. The goals of the agreement were discussed, including the other contents which explained the causes of global warming. One of the goals of the agreement was keeping the global temperature to just below two degrees Celsius, or at a safer temperature of 1.5. This is the most ideal if you want to avoid severe and irreversible climate damage. To keep this temperature maintained, measures and strategies must be done. People have to be aware of the climate crisis to realize that it does need to be taken care of.

Warming Trend In The Climate

Estimating the global average air temperature is not easy. It needs a thorough analysis of the different measurements used worldwide, including measurements from satellites, shipped, and land stations. Even if there are several complications in structuring data, various independent groups have come up with a separate yet unanimous conclusion that the global average air temp has increased to 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit in the 1900s. Although there have been erratic changes in the records, the years that followed have had warmers trends in the climate.

Back when the thermometers used were not yet very accurate, temperatures were reconstructed with the use of climate-sensitive tools or proxies. Tree rings, marine sediments, and ice cores were some of the materials used to make these proxies. Comparisons performed using these proxies showed that the 1980s and the succeeding years had been the warmest years over the last eight centuries. Global temperature, on the other hand, had risen to its peak temperatures some 10,000 years ago.

How Humans Have Changed The Climate

Careful assessment of data and other types of evidence suggest that most of the global warming effects in the past five decades were not due to natural causes but rather that humans played a crucial role in the current climate crisis. To further understand how humans have influenced the climate, scientists considered various natural factors that may have affected precipitation, temperature, or other points of the climate using timescales of days to decades and even longer. One natural factor was the El Nino Southern Oscillation or the ENSO, an erratic shift between cooling and warming in a span of seven years, located at the equatorial Pacific Ocean. It has caused tremendous shifts in rainfall patterns and temperatures.

Volcanic activities also affect climate, as it increases the number of aerosol particles within the stratosphere that absorb or reflect the sun, causing short-term superficial cooling for about three years. Thousands of years ago, continually recurring alternations in the earth around the sun had been sufficient to create ice age cycles through the last 800,000 years.

Fingerprinting is a robust method of analyzing the cause and effect of climate change. Various influences on climate lead to various patterns that have been recorded since. This becomes visible when scientists search beyond the changes in the temperature of the planet and delve deeper into temporal and geographical graphs of climate change. For instance, a heightened energy output of the sun causes different temperature changes in the Earth’s surface. Atmospheric temp patterns showed a fingerprint result that was closer to that of a longstanding CO2 increase compared to that of a wavering sun. Researchers regularly test whether natural changes occurring in the sun, climate variability, or volcanic activities can explain the changes that they have identified in the various areas of the climate system.

The Future Of Climate Change

Scientists and researchers have made tremendous success in observations, modeling, and theories regarding the climate system of the Earth, and these improvements have allowed them to forecast the future of climate change with much confidence. However, some inevitable issues still make it impossible to provide an accurate estimate of the regional or global temperature trends decades from now. First, one cannot forecast the amount of CO2 that humans emit, as this will rely on several factors like the society’s consumption and production of energy and its corresponding changes in the decades to come, and also how the global economy goes.

Second, with the latest knowledge on the complications of how climate feedbacks work, there are several possible results, even for, say, CO2 emissions. Finally, For some decades now, natural variability can inflect the outcomes of basic temperature trends. Overall, model projections stipulate that the Earth will be warmer in the coming years, decades, and even centuries. Policies must be created to include ways and means of reducing emissions and other debilitating factors that tremendously affect climate. If these policies and measures are not implemented soon, then global warming temperatures from the current 2.6 will further increase to 4.8 degrees Celsius. This is particularly very challenging for scientists and other experts.

Human Creations That Impact The Earth

As humans evolve, their intelligence and ability also go up a higher level. That is the reason why almost every decade and years, there are discoveries of a lot of things.  “Humans are the most intelligent system we know,” says Noah Goodman, Ph.D. There is electricity, building construction, materials, and food production, medical equipment, and a lot more. Honestly, it is significantly fantastic how we managed to find the perfect ways of living conveniently. That is, regardless of whatever it takes. By “whatever it takes,” I meant the destruction and impact of human creation on the Earth.

New Materials

One of the things that create a permanent impact on the planet is the creation of new materials. Take aluminum, for example. Pure elemental aluminum doesn’t come in nature because it is a human-made compound. Yes, people produce approximately 500 million of aluminum all over the world to create things useful and convenient. These include knives, forks, pans, plates, and the list goes on. Humans love producing tons of it because it is lightweight, durable, corrosion-resistant, flexible, and impermeable. But in terms of its production, it takes a lot of energy to create. So imagine how Earth would have to put up in creating millions of it in a year.

Consider adding concrete as well. Just over the past 20 years, there is about 25 billion tons of concrete that cover the planet. Throughout human history, people managed to cover enough surface of the Earth, leaving it in a state where its soil surface appears trapped in a human-made pavement. Yes, I get that. It is one of the most useful creations humans ever made because it helps out in transportation and shelter. But people do not know that cement industries are part of the contributing producers of carbon dioxide. Aside from its ability to damage the most fertile layers of the Earth, it is also a contributing source of a chemical that harms the atmosphere. This further causes air pollution.

“How can teens limit their exposure to air pollution?” says Jonas Miller, a psychologist. “They “should consider limiting their time outside during rush hour. That’s especially important “on days when air pollution is particularly strong.”

Humans create millions of plastics every day. Yes, we all know that. We love the way how it provides us convenience in almost 90% of our stuff. Perhaps that is the reason why people tend to ignore the damages it causes our environment. Seeing those birds, animals, and other marine lives ingesting plastics out of nowhere, humans are less alarmed. That is because instead of thinking about how plastics can become an issue, the goal is to live a comfortable and manageable life. Barbara Markway, Ph.D. says, “Despite the fact that scientists have tried to educate Americans about our environmental chaos for a long time, it doesn’t seem to be sinking in.”

In addition to the chemical traces we leave behind the Earth, we are also physically changing a massive amount of surface of the planet. That is due to the extensive process of farming, mining, deforestation, and modifying dams and coastlines. Humans already transformed the large portion of the Earths’ land area. Today, the planet is nowhere near its healthy and beautiful state as it was before.

All of these damaging things affect the Earth. What for? Well, it is for our convenience. We should be thankful because our Earth is sacrificing a lot for our demands. But is it that hard enough to consider the planet this time?
